It's been a while since I've posted anything here (sorry mom) I've been busy traveling and studying so I haven't thought much about this blog. A few weeks after we went to Belfast, we took a trip to Edinburgh, Scotland. This was another excursion that was paid for by API (the program I came to Dublin through). We left UCD for the airport at some ungodly hour, I think it was 4 am, and headed for the airport. From there we boarded our planes to Edinburgh, it was a short flight-only about 45 minutes. The flight was easy and when we landed it wasn't raining so that is always a good sign! We did A LOT of walking that weekend, but the sights were beautiful. The first thing we did when we arrived was head to the Edinburgh Castle. We took a self guided walking tour and saw some beautiful views of Edinburgh and ate some delicious pastries. After that we took a tour of something called "The Royal Mile" which pretty much is a stretch of road (a mile long) between two castles in Edinburgh. It was a really interesting tour but it was also freezing and we were all exhausted. After the tour we went to a pub and got a pint of Scottish beer to warm up a bit. From there, we went to a famous fudge shop and got to sample so delicious fudge. That night, we went to dinner and then out to an Irish pub (even though we were in Scotland) and then headed back to the hotel to sleep. The next morning we woke up, ate breakfast, and walked to the city center to continue taking some tours of the city. We took a tour of some underground "haunted" street that used to be very popular in Edinburgh, we also went to a museum to look at some paintings. Then later that day, we took a Harry Potter tour through the city. I wasn't too thrilled about this because I'm not a huge fan of Harry Potter, but it was kind of interesting. The tour was based more on the things that inspired J.K Rowling when she wrote the books. We also got to see the famous Cafe she wrote them in. For our last day in Scotland, we went on a tour of the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Queens royal residence on the water. After we got to live like the Queen for a few hours, we got on a bus and went to the airport and headed back to Dublin. It was a tiring trip, we did an awful lot in a short amount of time, but it was so worth it. Scotland was beautiful and it was really interesting to see a place so similar to Ireland but with a whole different history.
