We left UCD at 4 am on March 18th to head for Rome. The flight was almost 3 hours long, but was pretty smooth sailing all the way there. When we landed, we walked to the apartment we were staying in while we were there. The apartment was owned by the cutest old Italian woman named Rita who called herself Nona Rita, she didn't speak any english so communicating was interesting. After getting settled in, we decided to walk around and do some touristy things for the rest of the day. Our apartment was situated a few streets down from the Vatican so we decided to start there. The Vatican was beautiful-it was also huge and there were a lot of people there. We walked around there for a little while then decided to head into a different part of the city to find the Trevi Fountain. We walked for a really long time and pretty much had no idea where we were going, so when we found a restaurant that looked good, we posted up there and ate a delicious Italian meal. From there we made our way to the Trevi Fountain, took some nice touristy pictures and ate some homemade gelato. It was like a scene from a movie (The Lizzie McGuire Movie definitely comes to mind). The next morning we hopped on a Hop on Hop off bus tour of Rome. It stopped at all the big tourist attractions so it seemed like a good mode of transportation for us. We boarded at the Vatican and our first stop was the Spanish Steps, we climbed up and took some pictures of the view and then made our way back towards a restaurant to get lunch. We ate a great lunch and then made our way back to the Trevi Fountain. It looked different during the day, but equally as beautiful, we took a few pictures there and got back on the bus. From there, we went to the Colosseum and walked around there for a little while. We didn't have much time there because we had to catch the last bus to go back to our apartment, but it was a beautiful day and it was nice to walk around and take in the scenery. That night we ate some more delicious food and then went back to the Fountain for a fresh cannoli and some more gelato. Needless to say, the food was probably the highlight of our time in Rome ;). We had an early night that night because we had to get up super early to get our train to florence!
